26.09 - 11.10.2010 - Photographs by Paul Tierney
Paul Tierney is a photographer of architecture, art and design. He works with many leading architects, artists and designers. This exhibition showed ten large-scale works.
26.08 - 11.09.2010 - Artlino: An exhibition of linoprints by Paula Pohli
Paula Pohli’s linoprints are primarily back and white, with occasional strong colour. Motifs include Irish cityscapes as well as Irish and Alpine landscapes.
05 - 06.2010 - Pause
In Pause we documented and exhibited the best of current unbuilt Irish architecture under 4 headings; Housing, Infrastructure, Mixed Use and Public buildings. 14 separate architectural practices were represented.
02 - 04.2010 - Centre Pier Galway Harbour Competition
In association with the Galway Harbour Company and the RIAI we organised an exhibition of the winning and short-listed entries for this international design competition. There were three categories, one for qualified architects, one for students, both chosen by a professional jury, and the third category was a public vote. Thirty six separate entries were displayed.
10.2009 - 01.2010 - Becoming
An exhibition of Irish competition-winning projects, tracing the progress of innovative architectural ideas from the initial design/competition stages through to the realized or about-to-be realized building
Lunchtime Conversations:
Darc space hosts a monthly lunchtime discussion chaired by an invited guest based on a topic of their choosing. These are very popular events, at which free lunch is supplied by sponsorship organised by darc space with the guest speaker
05.2010- Meet the President
President of the RIAI Paul Keogh outlined his vision for architecture over the next 3-5 years and discussed the means whereby this could be achieved. Also present was Selma Harrington, who had just been elected as the President of the Architect’s Council of Europe (ACE).
06.2010- Dublin World Design Capital 2014
Dublin City Architect Ali Grehan presented the case for Dublin applying for the forthcoming nomination as World Design Capital 2014.
07.July 2010- Consolidating the City
Pauline Byrne and Rob O’Shea of Treasury Holdings spoke of the challenges and opportunities that will be presented to Dublin in the coming years, in the face of growing international competition.
Evening Panel Discussions:
18.11.2009- darc space hosted a panel discussion on ‘Forms of Procurement’ including the need for more architectural competitions.
Private and public clients debated, with a panel of architects, relevant topics such as barriers in procurement for smaller and emerging practices, open design competitions, other models and PPPs. The panel discussion coincided with the gallery’s inaugural exhibition ‘Becoming’ which showed five Irish competition winning projects at various stages of development.
Panelists leading the discussion included;
Architects Michelle Fagan, Paul Quilligan, Director of the RIAI John Graby, and architect and academic Noel Brady (Chair).
